Leaders in Training Program at Camp Wasaga

Camp Wasaga offers the Leaders in Training program for individuals 14 years of age and older who are interested in developing their own leadership skills in an outdoor setting.

LIT PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Leaders in Training Program is designed to help prepare youth for leadership in the camp setting and beyond. It encourages communication, leadership, problem solving and independence.

The LIT program offers campers the opportunity to increase their independence and confidence by attending Camp Wasaga without their parents. LITs are supervised by the LIT Director and the Camp Director.

Leader in training I

Involves a week of learning which includes an overnight camping trip, leadership theory, practice (working in age-specific groups with Leaders) and the opportunity to run programs such as campfires and talent shows. The youth will also work on canoe, kayak and orienteering skills.

The LIT 1 Program is geared towards those aged 14 and up.

Leader in Training II

Involves two weeks of learning which includes a two-night overnight camping trip, wilderness survival, leadership theory, a stronger emphasis on leadership practice and first-aid. These youths will learn to teach others canoe, kayak and orienteering skills as well as be more involved in running program activities such as games, overnight camping and other camp programs.

The LIT 2 Program is geared towards those aged 15 and up.

While it is useful to have completed LIT 1 before entering LIT 2, it is not mandatory. Those who were unable to attend LIT 1 due to COVID may enter directly into LIT 2 if aged 15 or up.

LIT 2 Program has been used in the past to qualify for service learning opportunities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award’s Adventurous Journey.
