Zoe's Place

As most of you know, we lost our dear naturalist, Zoe Goldstein while she was adventuring in B.C. last June. Zoe started coming to family camp when she was a year old. Later when her mother Tzipporah (Sarah Goldstein became camp director she was a full time camp kid. She took the leadership training and volunteered and worked at camp as a young woman. Camp naturalist was her dream job and sadly she died one week before coming to camp. We'll never forget Zoe, but we wanted to remember her in a very special way. The Board of Directors struck a committee to plan and develop a meditative garden called Zoe's Place. Cheryl Cohen has consulted with the committee to select a location and will be contributing her knowledge of therapy through horticulture. The goal is to create a peaceful healing space. Lynn Wetherill, a graduate of the Red River College landscape technician program, has volunteered her time to design our garden. Tzipporah and Albert Meijering have donated a simple limestone bench so people can sit, relax and enjoy the view of Clear Lake. All plants will be native to the region because we are in a national park. . Planting will take place during our volunteer work weekend (the May long weekend).

Jeanne Towle has been dedicated in steering this committee. Other members are; Liora Glow, Cheryl Cohen, Tzipporah Meijering, Albert Meijering, and Pam Kirkpatrick. Fundraising has included camper donations in Zoe's memory and a very inventive group of kid campers led by Stacey Kuntz and Jessica Gilligan who sold "coffeeccino" at Thanksgiving. We have over $500.00 in our Zoe's Place fund now - more proof that Camp Wasaga is a loving and caring community.
